10/25/2024 Florida Crossroads – Seafood Farming
The United Nations reports that in the late 1980s, the world’s oceans reached maximum productivity for generating wild-caught seafood. To help meet the demands of a growing human population, researchers at the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute at FAU are developing and testing methods of producing more fish and shellfish through aquaculture. In this edition of Florida Crossroads, we go inside their research facilities and explore ways they’re sharing the results with commercial operations, including a first-of-its-kind company producing pompano in tanks on land.
