Reflections: Walt Disney Announces the “Florida Project”

On November 16, 1965, Florida’s Governor Haydon Burns, Walt Disney and his brother Roy were escorted into the Egyptian Ballroom of Orlando’s Cherry Plaza hotel. They had a 2 PM meeting with government and business leaders. Following that, the three men held a 4 PM news conference with the press to announce the “new world of pleasure, entertainment and economic development” that Walt Disney was bringing to Florida.
