During a time of extreme racial tension in the South, two white men were murdered. Two black men were sentenced to die for the crime… and were pardoned twelve years later. This year, lawmakers agreed to compensate the men, Freddie Pitts and Wilbert Lee, for the time they spent in prison by giving each a check for half-a-million dollars.
