Off the Beaten Path – Wausau Fun Day & Possum Festival

In 1982, the Florida Legislature passed a joint-resolution which declared the first Saturday in August as “Possum Day.” This celebration takes place in Wausau, a small Panhandle town in Washington County. A parade featuring the Possum King and Queen, musical performances, a possum auction to raise money for scholarships, and competitions where kids mimic farm animals, are just some of the highlights of the Possum Festival.
