September 21, 2023: Florida Crossroads: Hurricane Ian: Lessons Learned

One of the deadliest hurricanes in recent history struck Florida on September 28, 2022.  It tested all of Florida’s emergency response systems. In this Florida Crossroads, we visit some of the hardest hit areas, many still struggling to recover. Residents of Southwest Florida saw deadly storm surge, the likes of which Florida hasn’t seen in recent memory. Inland communities even suffered severe flooding. Floridians learned a lot from Hurricane Ian. We’ll show some of those lessons in action, including how to help victims after the storm and how not to help them. And how to “Know Your Home, Know Your Zone” next time a storm approaches.
