Watch: Historical Marker on the Lyric Theater
The Lyric Theater was built in 1913 by Geder Walker in Overtown, a neighborhood in Miami. Originally a vaudeville theater, it hosted many events for the community. Many notable performers such as Marian Anderson, Nat King Cole, and Billie Holiday were hosted at the theater during its heyday. Today, the building houses the Black Archives and showcases exhibits about the history of the area.
