Florida Portrait on the Florida Theatre
The Florida Theatre is one of the cornerstones of downtown Jacksonville. Built in 1927, R.E. Hall of New York and Roy Benjamin of Jacksonville were the architects who designed the building. The lobby was built in the style of a Moorish courtyard. Many artists have left their mark on the Florida Theatre’s stage, most notably Elvis Presley’s 1956 performance. Today, it showcases more than 200 shows a year and remains a living landmark where history, performance, and tradition come together.
