Capitol Update – Week Ending 07/31/2026

Capitol Update is a review of state government. Topics this week focus on:

• A Leon County Circuit Court judge heard arguments over whether or not the ballot language for a proposed constitutional amendment cutting property taxes is misleading to voters.
• Two men sentenced to death nearly four decades ago were executed by the state this week. Opponents held a vigil outside the Governor’s Mansion.
• One Osceola County teacher received a $50,000 prize after being chosen as Florida’s Teacher of the Year.
