Capitol Update – Week Ending 07/24/2026

Capitol Update is a review of state government.  Topics this week focus on:

• State economists announced that the number of Floridians receiving temporary financial assistance has decreased from initial estimates by nearly thirty percent. 
• Federal officials enacted a new policy decreasing the minimum amount of sugar required in processed orange juice. Citrus industry leaders say the move could help citrus farmers in Florida get more of their product on store shelves.
• Governor Ron DeSantis unveiled a new statue in the state capitol honoring the legacy of Juan Ponce de León.
