Capitol Update is a review of state government. Topics this week include:

  • A House committee started the process of drawing a new map of Florida’s Congressional districts while Senate President Ben Albritton said Senate action on redistricting would wait until spring.
  • The House and Senate also took different approaches to property tax reform with a House committee approving four proposed constitutional amendments and a Senate committee chairman saying there’s no timetable to file a Senate bill.
  • A House committee approved a bill to replace the mockingbird as Florida’s state bird with the flamingo as state bird and the scrub-jay as state songbird.
