Capitol Update is a weekly review of state government. Topics this week include:
The Florida Supreme Court heard oral arguments in a challenge to a law that imposes personal fines and penalties on city and county commissioners who approve gun ordinances that don’t conform to state law.
Governor Ron DeSantis signed bills that provide educational and career benefits to service members and veterans, but vetoed SB 2508 which would have modified water management in South Florida.
The Public Service Commission rejected a request by Environmental Utilities to replace septic systems with sewer lines in Little Gasparilla and other barrier islands, agreeing with more than a thousand residents who said installing sewers would wreck the natural beauty of the islands and kill wildlife.
