9/15/25 Capitol Update Extended – Governor DeSantis Signs Death Warrant for Samuel Smithers

On September 12, Governor DeSantis signed a death warrant for Samuel Smithers. Smithers was convicted in the 1996 murders of two sex workers in Hillsborough County. His execution is scheduled for October 14.
