8/24/23 Second Judicial Circuit Court Hearing on Congressional Redistricting Plan
This hearing focuses on the diminishment of the ability of African American voters in North Florida to elect a candidate of their choice to Congress. Voting rights groups argue the diminishment is a result of a new congressional redistricting map re-drawn last year by the Governor’s office and approved by the Legislature. The State argues that the U.S. Constitution’s Equal Protection Clause does not allow a minority district in North Florida to be drawn since most of the voters there are white.
