This hearing is to consider a motion for an emergency preliminary injunction in a case brought by 19 people who say the Department of Economic Opportunity is negligent and violating the law for not promptly providing unemployment benefits.  They’re also suing Deloitte Consulting, the contractor that designed the unemployment system which plaintiffs say is defective.  They’re seeking a preliminary injunction that would require DEO to pay them the unemployment benefits they’re owed as well as additional damages.  The state is arguing that the relief sought can’t be enforced by the court and that plaintiffs cannot establish irreparable harm as unemployment applications are being processed.
