The plaintiffs, including Black Voters Matter and The League of Women Voters, have filed suit against the State of Florida over the new district map for Florida’s 28th congressional district. They say the new map violates the Fair Districts amendment in the state constitution by eliminating an African American district across North Florida. They want the court to adopt a new map for this year’s election. The State defends the map stating it cannot draw minority districts including minority populations from distant parts of the state in conflict with recent federal court decisions.
