12/7/21 Florida Supreme Court Oral Arguments: State of Florida v. Deontae Palinski Johnson SC21-20
Johnson was convicted of vehicular homicide, two counts of leaving the scene of a crash involving injury, and one count of leaving the scene of a crash involving death. Johnson appealed, arguing that his multiple leaving the scene convictions violated his double jeopardy rights under Florida law. The First District Court of Appeal agreed and certified a question of great public importance to this Court, asking whether multiple convictions for leaving the scene, stemming from a single crash involving multiple victims, violates double jeopardy.
