Redistricting Hearings
In the summer of 2011, state senators and representatives hosted joint hearings at locations throughout the state to hear citizens’ views on the redistricting process. Every ten years after the U.S. Census, the Florida Legislature redraws the boundaries for state House, state Senate, and congressional districts to comply with federal and state law. The purpose of redistricting is to ensure that each district has equal representation at all levels of government. The redistricting process had to be completed before candidates could qualify for the 2012 elections.
