Redistricting

Every ten years after the U.S. Census, the Florida Legislature redraws the boundaries for state House, state Senate, and congressional districts to comply with federal and state law. The purpose of redistricting is to ensure that each district has equal representation at all levels of government. The redistricting process must be completed before candidates can qualify for elections.

This archive includes legislative committee meetings held up to and through the 2011 and 2012 legislative sessions; joint legislative hearings held in the summer of 2011 to provide Florida residents an opportunity to express their views on the redistricting process; Florida Supreme Court oral arguments and court hearings related to redistricting; and events from the 2012 Extraordinary Apportionment Session.
