Elementary school children chose the Florida panther as the state animal in 1982, but today, fewer than 50 panthers remain in the wild.  To help save the panther from extinction, government agencies are working on three fronts:  genetic restoration through breeding with Texas cougars, habitat preservation and the reintroduction of panthers into their former range.  Follow the panther recovery team as they encounter the controversies and challenge of bringing back an endangered species.
