11/13/1997 Florida Crossroads – River of Dreams

Florida’s Kissimmee River, the headwaters of Florida’s Everglades system, has shown many faces and inspired many dreams. This is the story of a great river, from the days of steamboat travel and the great floods of the early 1940’s, through the channelization of the 1960’s and the restoration efforts of today. Observe how scientists and engineers struggle with the difficult task of taking this channelized river and restoring it to a functioning river/floodplain ecosystem again.
