Capitol Update – Week Ending 05/30/2025

Capitol Update is a weekly review of state government.  This week’s topics include:   

• The Florida Senate announced the death of John Thrasher, former FSU president who also served in the Florida Senate and as Speaker of the Florida House.
• The Governor signed more than a dozen bills, including one that recognizes gold and silver coins as legal tender in Florida.
• University of Florida trustees chose Dr. Santa Ono from the University of Michigan to be UF’s president, while University of West Florida trustees chose Florida’s Education Commissioner Manny Diaz as UWF’s interim president.
