Capitol Update – Week Ending 09/24/2021

Capitol Update is a weekly review of state government.  Topics this week include:  

• The Governor appointed a new Surgeon General who immediately issued a new rule preventing schools from quarantining children exposed to COVID-19 who aren’t symptomatic.
• Republican and Democratic lawmakers reacted to a bill filed by Rep. Webster Barnaby (R-Orange City) that mirrors the restrictive Texas abortion law.
• Lawmakers gathered at the Capitol for the first committee week of the 2022 session, listening to budget pitches and setting out procedures for redistricting.
