Capitol Update – Week Ending 06/12/2020

Capitol Update is a weekly review of state government. Topics this week include:

• The Governor and Commissioner of Education announced plans to fully reopen schools in the fall.
• As protests for racial justice continued around the state, the Governor signed a relief bill for Clifford Williams, an African-American man who spent 43 years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit, and another bill for Dontrell Stephens who was unarmed when a Palm Beach County deputy shot him and left him paralyzed.
• A state senator testified before Congress about shortcomings in Florida’s unemployment system.
