Capitol Update is a weekly review of state government. Topics this week include:

  • The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Commission completed their report on the shooting in February, recommending – among other things – that more teachers should be allowed to train and carry guns on campus.
  • The Florida Supreme Court ruled against the “Strong Schools” group that had claimed the state is violating the constitution by failing to provide a free, high quality public education.
  • Governor-elect Ron DeSantis named more new department heads, including leaders for the Department of Children & Families, the Department of Corrections and VISIT Florida.
