Capitol Update – Nightly During Session – Thursday, March 19, 2020

Capitol Update is daily review of state government during the Legislative Session. Today’s topics include:

• The House and Senate reconvened and passed a $93.2 billion budget unanimously, in a session overshadowed by the COVID-19 crisis.
• Governor Ron DeSantis said more Coronavirus testing swabs are being distributed, and warned young people that the virus is affecting more of them – and more seriously – than previously reported.
• The week started with reports of a record-low 2.8% unemployment rate; but it’s ending with mass layoffs and skyrocketing unemployment claims because of the virus.
