Job Opening Responsibilities
Responsible for The Florida Channel’s over the air day-to-day technical operations and maintenance while providing the principal technical leadership for TFC’s overall services and production.
Consults with the Executive Director and frequently seeks input from related personnel, stakeholders and others on the planning, design, implementation and maintenance of systems required to broadcast/distribute TFC; includes equipment purchases, upgrades and commissioning.
Communicates and works directly and proactively with Executive Director, Management Team and others to develop and implement best practices related to all aspects of TFC’s Engineering and Technology Services consistent with daily production, emerging/evolving technological needs/demands, TFC standards and contract requirements.
Actively participates as a senior member of the Management Team in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, standards, budget decisions, and both short and long-term goals for The Florida Channel.
Acts, along with other Team Leaders, as Role Model for adherence to established standards, best practices and procedures (including, but not limited to, TFC Code of Conduct) and uses best efforts to ensure direct reports (A&P, USPS and OPS) are in compliance and held accountable.
Maintains high profile with stakeholders, staff and elected officials in the Capitol and with News Media.

Hires, supervises, trains, and evaluates TFC Engineering and technology services staff.
Ensures staff are properly trained, evaluated and held accountable in accordance with TFC best practices and procedures.
Supervises the construction, implementation and maintenance of new, existing or modified technical systems, coordinates staff and equipment through projects and assigns work priorities within areas of responsibility for TFC Engineering and Technology Services so that department/organizational needs, related timelines and deadlines are established and met.
Serves as Lead contact between TFC users and the FSU Office of Information Technology Services. Periodically resolves problems concerning connectivity between university systems and has frequent contact with hardware and software vendors.
Responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, monitoring, troubleshooting, preventative and corrective maintenance of tech core operations and systems within TFC’s Engineering and Technology Services, including but not limited to: asset management servers, Master Control servers and automation, routers, switchers, graphics systems, robotic and hand held cameras, microphones and audio boards, live video transmission systems such as LiveU, automation systems, tapeless environment services and systems such as Avid as well as broadcast encoders and end-user workstations.
Responsible for long-term planning/design of improvements and modifications to the technical facilities including robotics and automation improvements along with overseeing personnel with equipment purchases/replacement including capital budget recommendations, quote and bid preparation and analysis, and representing projects with vendors as well as federal, state and university agencies/departments.
Ensures compliance with all FCC rules and regulations affecting all aspects of TFC program production and over the air distribution.
Serves as primary contact for Inventory Reporting and Control with all TFC television related contract entities and maintains comprehensive and accurate documentation of all equipment and systems used in TFC program production and distribution (both FSU and DOE) for inventory purposes, yearly audits, and to ensure technical integrity and continuity of production/distribution services.
Serves as one of the primary contacts for technical information and support for representatives from the Offices of the Governor, Speaker of the House and Senate President as well as other government agencies.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and six years of work experience related to media, communications, and/or marketing services; or a high school diploma/equivalent and ten years of experience in the same.
(Note: a combination of post-high school education and experience equal to ten years in the same.)
Experience leading or supervising a team and training others.

Ability to meet physical demands of the position which include lifting up to 50 lbs. and standing, sitting, climbing and walking for extended periods of time.
Ability to work a flexible schedule and respond to calls in a 24/7 environment (including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed).
Proficiency in evaluating, troubleshooting, installing, repairing, and maintaining broadcast equipment (including but not limited to analog and digital audio and video equipment) and IT systems.
Experience providing customer support in person and via phone.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to maintain a positive and constructive attitude as well as the ability to remain calm and professional in demanding situations.
Ability to meet physical demands of the position which include lifting up to 50 lbs. and standing, sitting, climbing, and walking for extended periods of time.
Ability to work a flexible schedule and respond to calls in a 24/7 environment (including nights, weekends and holidays, as needed).
