The Florida Everglades are a national treasure. Native Floridian Marjorie Stoneman Douglas described the unique geography as the River of Grass. Over the last century, it has been shrunk to less than half of its original size by efforts to drain much of the area in South Florida for farming and urban development as well as control flooding. In this Florida Crossroads, we look at the ongoing efforts to undo the damage in “Restoring Florida’s River of Grass.”
