Florida’s Attic – Civil War Archives

A look at some of the family papers from 1700’s -1970’s from the Blackshear, Pittman, White, Dickens, and Drew families donated to the state archives.  This segment features a series of letters from John Pittman to his mother Martha Pittman of Marianna, Florida.  The letters were written while John attended the University of Virginia in 1860 – 1861, and later while serving during the Civil War where he was killed in 1862.
