The final years of the Civil War brought Florida its biggest battles. Soldiers even described The Battle of Olustee as more intense than Gettysburg, though much smaller.  In these years, a Confederate hero emerged for his success in defending “Dixieland” against larger armies.  As part of our history series “Florida Remembers”, Mike Licquia takes us into the stories behind Florida’s Civil War battles and shows us how a wanted Confederate leader used Florida as a ticket to freedom.
