200,000 children in the State of Florida have at least one incarcerated parent. In this workshop, presenters from the Children of Inmates, Inc. will discuss the impacts of incarceration on children and how incarceration is suspected to impact the child’s future development. In the workshop, information will be provided on how research-based interventions can be used to mitigate the trauma caused by incarceration. Methodologies of engaging community, faith-based and professional organizations to interface successfully with the criminal justice and social services system to help children with incarcerated parents will also be explored.
